About the Event
This presentation showcases diaries, correspondence, postcards, maps, patent drawings, labels, advertisements, works of art, posters, and periodicals from the 1850s up to 2000. All the documents are interesting visually but after 1880, they are very colorful and they “show” rather than “tell” the history of Washington from a unique perspective. Lorraine will also brief us on her current research, concerning desertion from the Royal Navy and the U.S. Navy, on the Pacific Coast, 1850–1865―including one of the founders of Bothell!
